The Finnish Transport Agency is currently carrying out a multi-year project to update its traffic control systems. The project involves the development of the T-LOIK system, i.e. an integrated user interface for controlling road traffic. Gofore has participated in the T-LOIK project in a variety of different consulting roles.
Gofore is strongly involved in many different areas
T-LOIK consolidates numerous previously separate systems into a single clear solution, which substantially facilitates the day-to-day tasks of road traffic duty officers. The system is part of a project valued at €90 million that will revolutionise the control of all forms of traffic in Finland. Gofore has been involved in the massive digitalisation project since 2013.
T-LOIK is a system update that will take many years. “Finland is a pioneer in the modernisation of traffic control systems, and the project has even sparked interest abroad,” says Markus Nilsson, Information System Specialist for the Finnish Transport Agency.
Gofore has had a strong presence in many areas of the expansive project. “We lack the testing expertise required, so Gofore has handled quality assurance with the help of its subcontractors. We have also required extra people in procurement and utilised Gofore’s strong expertise in both information architecture and project management,” Nilsson says, listing the benefits.
Gofore’s expert serves as an integrator between the client and supplier teams. “Cooperation and communication is facilitated by the fact that some of the Gofore consultants work at our offices,” Nilsson says.

Smooth cooperation, commitment and initiative
During the years of cooperation, Gofore’s staff has, according to Markus Nilsson, demonstrated their high-level expertise. He values the fact that Gofore employees have been very successful in delivering on customer wishes and their flexibility has ensured smooth cooperation.
As an example, the commitment is evident in Gofore’s operator service, which handles any feedback concerning the T-LOIK system from road traffic duty officers working at the Road Traffic Centre. The service is available on weekdays from 8 am–4 pm, but Gofore has been proactive in handling cases even outside business hours. “This method of operation has improved the fluency and safety of traffic, which is, naturally, an extremely positive thing,” Nilsson comments.
Gofore takes good care of its employees, which, according to Nilsson, shows all the way to the client. “I must say that the Gofore people have a very particular air of positivity and well-being about them,” he says.
