Families with children are now closer to day care centres

In Espoo, early childhood education services are currently being digitalised: families have been invited to get closer to the everyday life of day care centres. The first phase of the collaboration is a day care calendar. In the future, more interactive functions will be added. Digitalising all day care services is a huge process which has now started.

Everyday routines now in a digital calendar

An application has been built to replace letters and facilitate communication between families and early childhood education. For example, the kalenteri.espoo.fi application lets parents book a time for a discussion with the day care team from their own couch. The renewal will continue with a service that will, in the future allow parents to apply for a day care place for their child.

Parents can now easily organise their family schedule – we’ve had a lot of praise for this.

Eight weeks to design and build

Early childhood education experts and employees were involved in planning and implementing the application. Gofore’s team of four swiftly created the service in just eight weeks using microservice architecture. Day care events and notifications are now easily available for parents. Parents can add their child’s group calendar to their own calendar view and in this way take the child’s activities into account as a part of the entire family’s activities. Use of the service will expand in the autumn when the pilot ends. As the system is developed further, modular architecture will be used.
