The weather satellite Meteosat Third Generation –Sounder 1 (MTG-S1) passed validation tests for both the spacecraft and the ground segment. These third generation satellites answer to the critical need of detecting and predicting rapidly evolving and potentially dangerous weather events driven by climate change.
The satellite was subjected to multitudes of testing. The tests included but were not limited to a thermal vacuum, vibration, and acoustic tests in addition to a comprehensive set of functional and performance tests.
The extensive validation ensured that the weather satellite meets the highest standards of reliability and operational security. MTG-S1 is now set for launch in 2025.
Provided control software
Gofore’s subsidiary Huld provided the control software that operates the two primary instruments of MTG-S1:
- The Infrared Sounder (IRS), which measures atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles.
- The Copernicus Sentinel-4/Ultraviolet Visible Near-infrared Sounder, which monitors air quality by measuring trace gases such as ozone and nitrogen dioxide.
These instruments work together to enhance the capabilities of the MTG-S1 satellite, significantly improving weather forecasting and environmental monitoring, particularly in Europe.
