TAK – Tactical Assault & team awareness kit

Real-time and secure situational awareness

Leading strategic situations requires a reliable solution that brings field operators, data and devices on a secure, mutual and real-time secure platform.

TAK is a map-based situational awareness solution that can be tailored to match different needs. TAK brings capabilities, devices and data of defence and critical infrastructure operators into a single and seamless view managed via mobile devices already in use.

In defence environments, TAK stands for Tactical Assault Kit, while in civilian contexts it stands for Team Awareness Kit.

A situational awareness system provides a strategic, data-driven advantage at critical moments of decision-making.

What is TAK?

TAK is a map-based situational awareness solution that can be tailored to different needs. It brings operators, marked locations, devices and data into a single, near-real-time view. The solution can be viewed on the user’s own mobile device. The application can connect to training systems, while user management ensures that user data remains in the right hands.

The TAK application itself is free of charge, and is available for downloading at biggest app stores. For real-time collaboration between multiple operators, the application requires plug-ins that bring different users’ application views onto a shared map. Gofore provides connectivity, maintenance, development, and expert services for TAK solutions.

A NATO-compatible situational awareness solution

TAK has been in use for more than 15 years and is a NATO-compatible solution. The usage of TAK in NATO joint exercises is an established part of modern situational awareness management. Users can view near-real-time updates on the situation and location data on their own devices, such as smartphones or tablets.

  • Marking troops, observations and hazardous areas on the map
  • Integrations with products and services such as drones, sensors and cameras
  • Real-time communications, sensor data and camera feeds on screen
  • AI integrations, such as automatic target recognition
  • Uses almost any type of data, from National Land Survey maps to radio signals

"The easiest way to comprehend TAK is to think of it as any other map application but with added muscle power."

Gofore's TAK service offering

1. Two-part training

The adoption of TAK as part of an organisation’s capabilities begins with a two-part training consisting of an introduction and an advanced technical training.

The introduction establishes a joint understand of TAK benefits and opportunities.

Technical training covers areas including solution architecture, development, information security, testing and data connections.

2. Plug-ins

Plug-ins connect different users devices to a shared TAK view.  The view can be modified or personalised to meet the operator needs. Customised plug-ins bring users’ devices, marked locations and data sources, such as drones, sensors, target designation devices, cameras and AI solutions, onto a shared map.

Plug-in production includes development, testing and quality assurance to ensure reliable operation in demanding field conditions.

3. Backend systems and extensions

The backend system is what distinguishes TAK from an ordinary map and enables intelligent situational awareness. We integrate the customer’s existing information systems, or systems built for this purpose, with TAK.

Servers, in turn, connect the TAK solutions of different operators, allowing the overall solution to be managed as a lifecycle-oriented ecosystem. Where required, extended integrations with the customer’s own products and services can be implemented, including the management of related licensing and distribution matters.

4. Maintenance and support

Like any other software solution, TAK requires ongoing development from time to time.

We provide software solutions, support and consultancy for troubleshooting, as well as implementation services to keep the TAK solution operational and ensure that it continues to serve end users effectively.

5. Turnkey hardware solution

Sometimes the situation calls for an agile, comprehensive package that provides everything needed to deploy TAK, from hardware and software to user training.

Where required, we provide comprehensive solutions from our TAK portfolio as a turnkey service to match the needs of the mission-critical and extreme conditions.

6. Future planning and consultancy

For TAK solutions already in use, we provide further use case planning to support organisations and operators in developing their situational awareness capabilities.

Concrete examples include dual-use consultancy and feature roadmap planning to bring out best in your existing TAK solution systems.
