Neste

Increasing digitalization, data knowledge and smart ways of working

Digitalization and data are at the core of Neste’s strategy. With digitalization and data, Neste can make faster and better decisions, increase efficiency and stay ahead of the competition.

Background

Digital and data change agent network

Neste acknowledges that the real value of digitalization is exposed only once people have learned to think and act in new ways. Gofore’s change management experts have been supporting Neste in this ambition. As a concrete way to scale digital and data knowledge and smart ways of working across the organization, Neste wanted to engage enthusiast employees and put together a change agent network.

As a starting point, we evaluated an existing, but no longer actively running network, that had been focusing on introducing new digital tools. As Neste expanded its digital transformation efforts even further according to its strategy, the objective, concept and roles of the network members needed to be re-evaluated. It was time to re-conceptualize and restart the network, the Digital Forerunners. We were happy to collaborate with Neste by concepting, kicking off and facilitating the renewed Digital Forerunners community.

Target

Strengthening the digital know-how

We started by describing the targets: Expanding and deepening the digital knowledge in Neste. Subsequently, we planned the necessary steps to achieve these targets and began their implementation. There were many digitalization-related activities and projects ongoing, and we wanted to provide an additional, consolidated, and enthusiastic platform for learning and exchanging digital expertise and knowledge.

Ways of working – learning and sharing

Community members, the Digital Forerunners, were developing and building their own competencies and careers as their digital and data related knowledge increased in the community. In addition, we built simple ways for forerunners to share their learnings further in their own organization, supporting Neste in strengthening its digital foundation organisation-wide.

The biggest benefits: The fact that change management specialists were helping to lead the initiative. They made sure that we had a plan and followed it. They supported the material creation, which helped to enable the community, and carry on with it. We would not have been able to do it without their support.

Result

Team effort with Neste and us

Reconceptualizing and community facilitation were a joint effort between Neste and our change experts. Our role was to manage the rescoping and re-concepting of the community, contact and stay in contact with the relevant stakeholders based on the renewed concept: We created, updated, and followed the communications and action plan together with the Neste team. We took significant steps by creating insightful multi-channel content to continuously enhance the community member experience as well as facilitating the community’s monthly gatherings and discussion channels. Sustaining the engagement of such a substantial and important community required active and constant facilitation, which we were able to achieve together as a team.

I am especially happy with the overall collaboration and open communication. There was mutual trust, which is very important – we were able to discuss positive and challenging topics. It felt like we were on the same boat, despite working in different companies.”
