Strategic partnership helps shape the best tractor experience on the market

Farm machines of the future are independent, efficient and eco-friendly. Nordic industry giant Valtra is developing world-class tractors and revolutionizing the field of mobile machines together with Devecto, part of Gofore Group.

Valtra tractors are known for their reliability, versatility and durability, and are sold in over 75 countries worldwide. Modern tractors are a lot more than just metal on wheels: they feature a number of intelligent solutions and electric controls. Together with Devecto, part of Gofore Group, Valtra is developing smart tractors that can make the operator’s job easier and more efficient.

”Valtra and Devecto have been collaborating since 2014. During our partnership we have seen a massive change in the control and interface solutions of farm machines. The growing number of graphical interfaces places a strong emphasis on user experience. Driving the machines has become easier, and IoT solutions have introduced a data-driven approach to maintenance,” Devecto’s CEO Harri Laukkanen illustrates.

“Devecto is a vital partner in our software, testing and methods development. Devecto’s experts also collaborate with us in improving Valtra’s production systems which makes them a strategic partner,” Valtra’s Manager of Electronics and Electrics Design Pekka Huuskonen says.

Software development for real-world environments

Devecto’s varied experience in mobile machines is a major asset for Valtra. Their insight on the farm machine industry and real-world working environments guarantees maximal performance in any setting.

“Instead of just developing the software, we consider the big picture. In addition to the operating environment, we need to factor tractor mechanics, hydraulics and electronics in our software solutions,” Harri Laukkanen reminds.

”Their experts have in-depth knowledge of the vehicle control units that are at the core of modern tractors. We trust Devecto’s abilities in safety, modeling, and software control,” Pekka Huuskonen says.

The complexity of a machine can be a cause of significant delay when completing a project. Huuskonen praises Devecto’s flexibility in ensuring that goals are met on schedule.

“In addition to their technical expertise, years of partnership have also proven Devecto’s deep commitment to our projects. As deadlines approach, they are always ready to scale their resources and double down to meet the schedule. Together we have tackled many major challenges.”

User-centered and eco-friendly solutions

Devecto and Valtra work in close collaboration to reach shared goals, and their division of work is flexible. Devecto’s experts work regularly on-site to review their solutions with Valtra’s machines. If need be, they are always ready to jump behind the wheel of a tractor.

“We do not distinguish between Devecto employees and our own in our everyday work. Tasks are shared equally, and everybody follows the shared principles of agile development. Anticipatory resource planning makes working together easier for both parties,” Pekka Huuskonen says.

Harri Laukkanen says Devecto is always looking ahead and follows the trends of the mobile machine industry with a keen eye. Devecto’s experts are always willing to help Valtra towards their goal of developing the best tractor experience in the world.

“Our work in fields such as forestry, mining and shipping has given us insight of the best practices in each industry. We want to combine our knowledge to push the entire mobile machine business towards a more user-centered and eco-friendly direction. I believe we will see more and more autonomy in farm machines,” Harri Laukkanen predicts.

Devecto is specialized in demanding software development for smart devices and intelligent machinery and related test systems. Devecto became part of Gofore Group through acquisition in January 2022.
