Gofore has been nominated for the World Smart City Awards with the Advanced Family Analytics project, which it has executed together with the City of Tampere. The winner will be announced at the world’s leading smart city event, the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona on November 16, 2022.
The annual World Smart City Awards is an international competition that aims to recognise pioneering projects, ideas, and strategies that make cities around the world more liveable, sustainable, and economically viable. The competition is organised in connection with the Smart City Expo World Congress. Gofore is competing in the category of Enabling Technologies with City of Bruges and Harvard. In total, the competition received 337 proposals from 60 countries and the winner will be announced in Barcelona on November 16, 2022.
Gofore applied for the competition with a progressive project that brings important information about the well-being of children, young people, and families with children in the Finnish municipalities of Tampere, Ylöjärvi, Vaasa, Laihia, Vantaa, and Pori. In the Advanced Family Analytics project, a snapshot of the well-being of almost 80,000 families with children living in the municipalities and 132,000 children under the age of 19 was built. The key observation is that the well-being of families is very diverse, which challenges the municipalities’ current service systems and ways of offering and targeting support in the right way and at the right time. The results of the analysis help municipalities in management, decision-making, and the provision of regionally targeted and family-oriented services. Information about families with children has been retrieved from 12 national register sources and the analysis has been done by combining expert knowledge, artificial intelligence, and ethical evaluation with advanced methods. Such a concrete and extensive analysis of the well-being of families with children, digging behind the phenomena, has never been done before.
The project received a state grant for the development work from the Finnish Ministry of Finance’s digitalization incentive program for the years 2020-2021. The national Advanced Family Analytics project was implemented in four sub-projects: Vaasa-Laihia, Tampere–Ylöjärvi, Vantaa, and Pori. Tampere acted as the administrator of the joint project and is responsible for its finances. Gofore Plc was responsible for directing the implementation process and content of the project.
